Here's a bugeye that someone has put a Mazda rotary into, and did a nice finishing job on.
Here's his description:
1959 Austin Healey Bugeye Custom Show and Go Car
This car built to look good and go fast. This car attracts a crowd where ever it goes. The car has been driven only 350 miles since a 2 year full nut and bolt restoration and custom build. This is an all metal car which has been de-seamed and smoothed. Any questionable areas of the car were removed and replaced with new sheet metal. Body was stripped to bare metal, DP90 sealed and primed, four coats of color and four coats of clear applied. All body and paint works were preformed by Barry Brown's Riter Restoration. This shop has had first place winners at Pebble Beach and Amelia Island. A frame within a frame was designed and installed to accommodate the current engine or V6/V8 power trains. Front spindles, kingpins, and A-arms were re-built. New disc brakes and tube shocks were fitted to the front. New tube shocks and aluminum trailing arms were fitted to the rear. 6 point safety roll bar installed. New wheels and tires. Reworked brake assembly with dual master cylinder and proportioning valve installed. Mazda rotary 13B engine with Racing Beat intake, Holley Carb, and custom header installed. Mazda 5-speed transmission, 4:22 rear end, aluminum radiator with twin electric fans. HP is estimated at 175 HP. New custom wiring harness, 10 gallon fuel cell, removable steering wheel, custom windshield, custom rear bumper, custom dash and grill, custom car cover. There is no top or side curtains for this car.
1962 AUSTIN HEALEY SPRITE (Clear Title) Stock outside custom underneath. This is definitely a driver's car, restored 12 years ago using new panels and floors, and a lot of custom work to make it a joy to drive. This car has a custom roll bar with side bars connecting to a hoop that is hidden under the dash. It has front-disc brake conversion using a 1967 dual master cylinder, all new suspension system with custom-valved front shocks and a coil over system in the rear, using adjustable ride-height bilstein shocks, with carrera springs. There is a panhard rod system in the rear. I'm a former racer so a lot of extra parts ended up on my street car, along with a removable steering wheel. The trans is stock and works fine. The engine is completely rebuilt .30 over with a decked block, a rebuilt head and new valves and springs. 1-1/4 carbs rebuilt for more power. Headers with a custom exhaust. New mags and a lot of stuff that I can't think of. The car does not have a top I only drove on sunny days and is always garaged. I never put rugs in they are inexpensive, I prefer to be utilitarian and don't care for them in these cars. Everything works!
