This project shows attaching the muffler, and creating exhaust mounts.
There is also a small modification to the rear suspension housing.

1. This is the down pipe and the special muffler. They will soon be together. |

2. The muffler has to be low profile because there isn't a lot of space under the car. |

3. There is a clearance issue between the exhaust and the rear suspension carrier. |

4. Here is the downpipe tacked to the v-band clamp. |

5. The spacers on top of the muffler are to ensure a minimum of 1/4 between the exhaust and the frame. |

6. Here are some rough markings figutingout how to clearance the carrier. |

7. And here is why. This is the exhaust pipe. |

8. I made a template for the front hanger and started cutting it out of 1/4 inch plate. |

9. The straight cuts were with a grinder, but the curves I finished with a plasma cutter. |

10. I then cleaned it up with a bench grinder. It's still a bit rough. |

11. Then drilled the appropriate holes. |

12. The car the engine came from used these studs on the transmission mount to hold the exhaust on. It made sense to re-use them |

13. Notched the carrier. |

14. The welds were especially bad. I was having trouble welding above myself in the dark. |

15. Plenty of room now. I may do the other side for symetry. |

16. More test fitting and some trimming. |

17. This is what I came up with on the muffler side. plenty of edge to weld with so the muffler won't tear. |

18. Front mount all done. |

19. I had some hangers from the mustang I used to have and figured they'd work well for the rear mount. |

20. Same rounded strap on the muffler side to prevent tearing. |

21. In place. It looks like it will work nicely. |

22. Here are the muffler and down pipe all one piece now. |

23. Front mount attached. |

24. Rear mount attached. |
I'll keep working on the relatively free parts of the project for the time being.
