More ripping and tearing.

I start taking apart the front bumper mount reinforcements left over from the rubber bumper car. My car no longer needs them, and they eat up several inches each of prime engine bay real estate. I also want to be amble to unbold the front panel from the car, like you could before the rubber bumper years.

1. I naively start here, thinking it will only be a few welds.

2. Here is the outside of the same panel.

3. Here is the same spot on the other side.

4. This is the starting point with the paint removed. You can clearly see some of the spot welds.

5. Same thing on the outside.

6. A clearer shot.

7. Clearer shot, outside.

8. One more of the inside.

9. All four welds neatly drilled out.

10. The drilled out holes from the wheel well side.

11. Inside the wheel well all cleaned up. I can see that I have a lot of drilling ahead of me

12. Slightly different angle.

13. This is the area that will have the extra rail removed.

14. A bunch of the holes drilled out along the rail.

15. More along the rail.

16. A lot of holes drilled out from the inside of the wheel well.

17. This is the area up near the front by where the rubber bumper spring brackets mounted.

18. I cut this part out with a hammer and chisel.

19. This is being cut away from the passenger side wheel well.

20. It looks like I've made a lot of progress, but I have to do the same along the bottom side of the rail.

21. Inside the wheel well, with a lot of the holes drilled.

22. Same up front. You can see some of the holes are getting messy.

23. Here it is with a good part of the rail having been removed.

24. Same more up front. That tan color is the original primer the car got in England.

25. I'm trying to decide whether or not to keep the original spring bracket mount areas.

26. Taking out eh reinforcement without damaging frame supports that will be staying.

27. Close up. All that dust is metal shavings from cutting.

28. It looks a little messy, but the holes will weld up nicely.

29. This is the top of the triangular support attached to the footwell. It's going to be trouble since there it little clearance for a grinder.

30. A shot of the inside of the reinforcement at the corner of the passenger footwell.

It's getting messier, but will clean up ok. It's worth it to help fit the new engine.
